Career
Mary Brainerd has been a leader in healthcare since 1984. Prior to joining HealthPartners in 1992, she served in senior level marketing and management positions with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota, Blue Plus, and as a marketing instructor in the graduate program at Metropolitan State University. She serves on the boards of Minnesota Life/Securian, St. Paul Foundation, Possis, Capital City Partnership, Hamline University and the Minneapolis Federal Reserve.

Born and raised in St. Paul, Minnesota. Married with two children. Recipient of the Medal of Distinction from the College of St. Catherine in 1998. Named one of the Business Journal's Most Influential Women in Business, 1999 and 2002. Received the University of St. Thomas Award for Ethical Leadership in 2002. She was named Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal's 2007 Executive of the Year. Hobbies include hiking, biking, cross-country skiing, aerobics, bird watching and reading.
