Save money with the Half-Tablet Advantage Program
It's a great way for you to cut your pharmacy bill in half! With this program, you receive a higher-strength medication to split in half for your prescribed dose. That means you pay one copay or coinsurance for 30 pills that can be split into a 60-day supply of your medication. It's like paying half price!
How to get started:-
When you're ready for a refill, just tell the pharmacist that you'd like to use the Half-Tablet Advantage Program.
-
Your pharmacist can adjust the medication strength and directions, and then dispense a higher-strength dose for you to split in half.
-
You'll receive 30 higher strength tablets (to last for two months) and pay a single copay.
-
If you need a tablet splitter, they are available at most pharmacies for a small cost.
Which medications are covered by the program?
Medications on the Half-Tablet Advantage Program list have been carefully chosen. To qualify for this program, slight differences in the daily doses of these medications make very little difference, the pills must be easy to split and the cost must be similar to different doses. Some of these medications come as scored tablets (able to be split by hand), others are not scored and will need a pill-splitter.
This program applies only to the following medications: -
Cholesterol medications: atorvastatin (Lipitor) and simvastatin (generic Zocor)
-
Anti-depressants: sertraline (generic Zoloft), escitalopram (Lexapro), paroxetine (generic Paxil)
While you can split any of these medications, the greatest savings comes from splitting Lipitor and Lexapro because they are brand name medications and more expensive.
Tablet splitting is not recommended for everyone
Splitting tablets may be more difficult for patients with poor eyesight, tremors, arthritis, poor memory or other mental health concerns. If you're not sure if tablet splitting is right for you, talk with your doctor or your pharmacist. The Half-Tablet Advantage Program is completely voluntary.
