Methodist Hospital completes major expansion

Project features two new patient floors, expanded surgery center

ST. LOUIS PARK, Minn. — Methodist Hospital is marking an important milestone in its expansion and renovation project. The facility just opened two new inpatient floors, completing the hospital’s expansion. The $140 million project is the largest since the hospital opened more than 50 years ago. 

Each new inpatient floor includes 24 private rooms featuring natural light, healing color palettes and inspiring artwork. Private rooms offer a quieter environment, improved infection control and more space for visitors. Each room includes a sleeper sofa, direct paths to the bathroom and new safety features.

The hospital also completed an expansion of its surgery center in May. The expanded space features eight new operating rooms that can handle any procedure and 40 new pre- and- post operating bays that offers space for patients and families. Methodist Hospital performs an average of 260 surgeries each week, which is expected to increase as a result of the expansion.

“Our investment in private patient rooms and our new surgery center allows us to better serve patients and family members,” said Roxanna Gapstur, Chief Operating Officer, Methodist Hospital. “While there are still more exciting renovations yet to come, we’re grateful that our patients and families can begin to enjoy some of the benefits of this project right now.”

Remaining project work includes renovating additional operating and patient rooms. When the project is complete in 2019, nearly all inpatient rooms will be private. Energy efficient upgrades and other sustainable features are expected to reduce overall energy consumption at the hospital by about 10 percent.
