All HealthPartners hospitals recognized for ‘Greening the OR’ work

National award honors work to reduce the environmental impact of surgery

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – April 19, 2017 – All six hospitals in the HealthPartners system have received this year’s Greening the OR Award from Practice Greenhealth. Amery Hospital & Clinic, Hudson Hospital & Clinic, Lakeview Hospital, Methodist Hospital, Regions Hospital and Westfields Hospital & Clinic were honored for their work to reduce the environmental footprint of their operating rooms. Practice Greenhealth is the nation’s leading health care sustainability community, empowering its members to improve their environmental stewardship.

All six hospitals were recognized for their success in finding cost saving and sustainability opportunities in the operating rooms. Their initiatives have saved waste, reduced energy and found innovative ways to reduce the otherwise large environmental impact of surgery procedures. Across all six hospitals, 396 tons of waste was avoided or recycled and over $940,000 saved.

The HealthPartners system won 12 other awards:

• Hudson Hospital & Clinic: Top 25 Environmental Excellence Award; Circles of Excellence-Food; Circles of Excellence-Water
• Lakeview Hospital: Greenhealth Emerald Award
• Methodist Hospital: Top 25 Environmental Excellence Award; Circles of Excellence-Waste; Circles of Excellence-Water
• Regions Hospital: Top 25 Environmental Excellence Award
• Westfields Hospital & Clinic: Greenhealth Emerald Award
• HealthPartners: System For Change Award

The awards will be presented at the Practice Greenhealth Environmental Excellence Awards Gala, set for May 18th in Minneapolis, Minn. at the conclusion of the CleanMed Conference & Exhibition.
