Regions and Methodist Hospitals named two of Healthgrades 2018 America’s Best Hospitals
HealthPartners recently announced that Healthgrades named Methodist and Regions Hospital among the best hospitals in the country as part of their annual Best Hospital list. Healthgrades is a group that evaluates nationwide hospital quality based on clinical outcomes.
Healthgrades named Regions one of America’s 50 Best Hospitals™, meaning it is in the top 1 percent of hospitals in the country for consistently providing overall clinical excellence across a number of conditions and procedures for at least seven consecutive years. Regions is the only hospital in Minnesota to receive this award three years in a row (2016-2018).
“We are honored to be a part of the Healthgrades list for a third year in a row,” said Megan Remark, President and CEO, Regions Hospital. “We are committed to the health and well-being of our patients and providing safe, high-quality care. This means having the right people and processes in place, but also all of our extraordinary colleagues working together for our patients.”
Methodist was listed among America’s 100 Best Hospitals™, putting it in the top 2 percent of hospitals in the country for exhibiting clinical excellence for at least five consecutive years. This is the second consecutive year Methodist has been recognized with this award.
“Safety, and quality are key strategies for a highly reliable organization,” said Roxanna Gapstur, President, Methodist Hospital. “To be recognized by Healthgrades as one of America’s Best Hospitals is a testament to the work of our care teams who are working together to make Methodist Hospital the very best place to receive care in the west metro.”
The awards are based on an assessment of objective clinical outcomes, gathered from more than 45 million Medicare claims records from nearly 4,500 hospitals nationwide for its consistent, year-over-year superior clinical performance as measured by Healthgrades, the leading online resource for comprehensive information about physicians and hospitals. Only four other Minnesota facilities were among America’s Best Hospitals in 2018.
From 2014 through 2016, patients treated in hospitals achieving Healthgrades America's 100 Best Hospitals Award had, on average, 22.3% lower risk of dying than if they were treated in hospitals that did not receive this award, as measured across 19 rated conditions and procedures where mortality is the outcome.* During this same period, if all other hospitals, as a group, performed at the level of America’s 100 Best Hospitals Award™ recipients across these 19 procedures and conditions, 162,284 lives could potentially have been saved.*
“As consumers take an active role in managing their health, they can have confidence that hospitals that have achieved the America’s 50 Best Hospital Award™ stand above the rest,” said Brad Bowman, Chief Medical Officer, Healthgrades. “We commend the recipients of the America’s 50 Best Hospital Award™ for delivering exceptional quality care to their patients.”
In addition to the Best Hospitals recognition, both Methodist and Regions received the Distinguished Hospital Award for Clinical Excellence™. This is given to hospitals that stand out above the rest because they consistently deliver comprehensive high-quality care, based on risk-adjusted mortality and complication rates, across a spectrum of common inpatient procedures and conditions.
