HealthPartners podcast ‘Off the Charts’ examines health equity emergency
Drs. Kari Haley and Steven Jackson explore diversity, equity and inclusion topics
BLOOMINGTON, Minn. — HealthPartners today launched a new podcast dedicated to topics about diversity, equity and inclusion. Off the Charts is hosted by HealthPartners physicians Kari Haley, MD, and Steven Jackson, MD. The podcast is believed to be the first-of-its-kind audio show on diversity, equity and inclusion produced by a health system.
Dr. Haley, an emergency physician and an assistant medical director for Regions Hospital EMS, and Dr. Jackson, a physiatrist at Regions, host candid conversations with guests on topics such as equity and education in the community, microaggressions, cultural humility, the importance of trust in health care, and what it means to be an anti-racist. Guests include clinicians, leaders and people making a difference in advancing diversity, equity and inclusion.
“Part of a healthier tomorrow is for us as health care providers to learn from our patients, leaders, the communities we serve and each other,” Dr. Haley said. “The podcast will create real conversations, projects and plans as listeners can relate to and be inspired by our guests while having a platform to make connections do good.”
In each episode, the doctors examine the health equity emergency in the Twin Cities and across the U.S. while exploring what it means for health care and communities.
“There is something everyone can take away from the guests and topics,” Dr. Jackson, co-chair of the HealthPartners Equity, Inclusion and Anti-Racism Cabinet, said. “I have found myself scribbling notes a lot when we've recorded because there have been so many things I've learned and want to apply to my everyday life. I hope the audience will feel that way, too.”
Off the Charts is available on Apple Podcasts and most podcast platforms.
