TRIA Orthopaedic Center doctor selected for Minnesota State High School League Board of Directors
BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – Joel Boyd, MD, orthopaedic surgeon with TRIA Orthopaedic Center (TRIA) was recently selected to serve on the Board of Directors of the Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL). Dr. Boyd was selected for this role by Governor Mark Dayton, and he will begin serving effective January 1, 2017.
Unlike other board members, Dr. Boyd will be representing the public, as opposed to a specific school or district. He will bring his experience and expertise in the fields of orthopaedics and sports medicine to this role, with the goal to improve the health and safety for high school athletes in Minnesota.
“We are very proud of Dr. Boyd’s appointment to this position, and his continued support of high school sports in Minnesota,” said Ed Craig, MD, TRIA Orthopaedic Center Chief Executive Officer. “Dr. Boyd’s extensive history working with athletes ranging from kids to professionals makes him a natural fit for this position, and we applaud his dedication to improving the health and well-being of high school athletes as part of the MSHSL.”
Dr. Boyd brings more than 25 years of experience to the MSHSL board, including nine years spent as a team physician for the Minnesota Vikings. He is also currently head team physician for the Minnesota Wild as well as the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers men’s football team. In his role with TRIA Orthopaedic Center, Dr. Boyd specializes in sports medicine with an emphasis on knee trauma, hamstring injuries, multiple ligament injuries and more.
“It is an honor to join the Board of Directors of the MSHSL,” said Dr. Boyd. “The organization has demonstrated a strong commitment to keeping high school athletes safe and healthy, and I look forward to supporting these efforts both on and off the field.”
Dr. Boyd will continue to practice out of TRIA Orthopaedic Center in Bloomington, while maintaining his existing commitment to the Minnesota Wild.
