Occupational Medicine Residency Program - HealthPartners Institute

The Occupational and Environmental Medicine (OEM) Residency program offers an exciting opportunity for residents to practice in a program that seamlessly blends individual patient care with the larger context of population health management. Within OEM, residents learn to prevent and manage occupational and environmental illnesses and injuries while promoting well being of workers, their families and the broader communities they serve.

The residency program is sponsored by HealthPartners Institute and accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). It is based at the HealthPartners West Clinic in Saint Louis Park, MN, and remains a core program of the MCOHS which is an Educational and Research Center (ERC) sponsored by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH).

The program has been in existence since 1977 when the MCOHS was formed as a consortium of the St. Paul Ramsey Medical Center (now HealthPartners – Regions Hospital) and the University of Minnesota School of Public Health.

Eligibility Criteria

Successfully completed at least one year in an ACGME-approved training program (e.g. transitional, internship year, or previous residency).
Eligible for unrestricted licensure by the Minnesota Board of Medical Practice which includes successful completion of USMLE/COMLEX Steps I, II, and III within three attempts.
USMLE/COMLEX Step III must be passed within 5 years of Step II.
Foreign medical graduates must have current ECFMG certification.
U.S. citizen or legally authorized to work in the United States.

Interviews

Interviews are scheduled after all application material has been submitted.
The interview day includes interviews with faculty, attendance at residency didactics, a tour of the HealthPartners Clinic, and an informal lunch with current residents.

Matriculation

The decision date for all occupational medicine residency programs typically occurs in mid-December.
