The HealthPartners Institute Dermatology Residency program was established in 2019, offering residents a path to excellence in dermatology. Our program is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) and is guided by a faculty of over 50 dermatologists with rich experience in teaching residents.
We train resident physicians to engage in life-long learning through a program that integrates the ACGME core competencies into daily practice. We are committed to building the foundation for our future colleagues to make important contributions to the field of dermatology, through committed clinical practice and/or academic pursuits.

Training Sites and Curriculum
Residents rotate every 4 months through our primary teaching sites: St. Louis Park, Maple Grove, Burnsville, and the St. Paul Specialty Center. The residents are in Continuity Clinic all day every Friday, where they follow many of the same patients at the same site for their entire residency. Month-long specialty rotations in dermatopathology, cutaneous surgery, and contact dermatitis and patch testing are provided in both the second and third years of training. Third years additionally have a month of elective provided to explore their personal educational interests.
A faculty preceptor is always available on-site for immediate supervision of patients in clinic, and electronic resources are available at each site. Coding and billing is taught during clinic sessions and with supplemental lectures. The clinics and hospitals are integrated on the same electronic medical record across the HealthPartners system. Residents have access to clinic and hospital records from any practice site or at home.
Residency program application
As an ACGME accredited dermatology residency program, we are looking for residents who are responsible, able to meet new challenges, flexible, team players, adaptable, reliable, mature, resourceful, motivated, inherently curious, love learning, can independently synthesize information and can think outside of the box.
We accept applicants who have completed prior residencies. Per the ACGME Dermatology Program Requirements, during the board-based clinical year (PGY-1), elective rotations in Dermatology must not exceed a total of two months.
We do not require any minimum board scores. All applicants will be screened holistically by the Program Leadership Team and a group of Faculty.
