At Regions Hospital, we are excited to train compassionate, hard-working residents who are eager to learn. Our Regions Hospital Emergency Medicine Residency Program provides a friendly, educational atmosphere in which our residents can discover the breadth and depth of Emergency Medicine, while also pursuing their unique career pathways with mentorship. As a result of the diverse educational experiences at Regions, many of our residents match into fellowships or assume leadership positions early in their careers. Started in 1996, our well established residency is a PGY 1-3 residency with 11 residents per class and is sponsored by the HealthPartners Institute.
We are excited to train the next generation of humanistic emergency physicians.

Residency experience
Advanced sub-specialty training through exposure to our HealthPartners Institute/Regions Hospital-based fellowships in Medical Toxicology, EMS, Ultrasound, Quality and Patient Safety, International Medicine and Pediatric Emergency Medicine. Residents have exceptional opportunities such as Associate Director of an EMS service or Quality and Patient Safety team.
Work in the Regions Hospital Emergency Department – we have a critical role in emergency care throughout the Twin Cities, Western Wisconsin and the entire upper Midwest. Regions is a Level-1 Adult and Pediatric Trauma Center, regional burn center and recognized heart and stroke center. It was the first level-1 Pediatric Trauma Center in the Midwest. 2019 ED data included ~89,000 visits with a 23% admission rate in an ED with 57 treatment rooms and 50,000 square feet of clinical space.
Learn in a Center of Excellence – Regions ED was the first U.S. academic medical center and the fourth hospital overall to qualify as an Emergency Center of Excellence. Eligibility for the Emergency Center of Excellence is based on the results of over 100 key performance indicators and compares hospitals on emergency department performance.
