Your online security and the protection of your HealthPartners account are important. From sign-in verification to two-factor authentication, learn more about steps you can take to protect your account and how we’re committed to your account’s security and integrity.

Keeping your account and email secure

Making sure your account is secure doesn’t take much effort. There are several easy ways to protect your personal information:

  • Don’t share your sign-in information with anyone, even friends and family. Sharing your username and password means you’re giving someone else access to your personal information and health records. Once you share your sign-in information with someone, you have less control over it.
  • If you have to walk away from your computer or device, make sure you sign out of your account. This prevents someone else from accessing your account.
  • If you’re using a shared or public computer, clear cached pages and cookies after you’re done. Also, remember to always sign out of your account.

Password security essentials

Passwords are your key to accessing many things online, so it’s important to use these best practices to keep your data safe:

  • When you create a password, make it strong. Don’t use anything that’s easy to guess, like a birthdate or address information. Instead, use a password that’s at least eight characters long, with numbers, special characters, and upper and lowercase letters. Also, remember that while we may contact you with account updates and other information, we’ll never ask you for your password.
  • Don’t reuse passwords across multiple websites. Instead, use a unique password for each website, including HealthPartners.
  • Consider changing your HealthPartners account password at least once per year. Regularly changing your password is one of the simplest ways you can protect your information. To change your password, sign in to your account.

Email security measures

Don’t forget to keep your email account secure too:

  • Make sure the email associated with your HealthPartners account is active and up to date. We use the email address you provide to send you alerts and notifications about your account activity, like password resets, account settings updates and account status information. If you opt in to paperless delivery, we’ll also occasionally send you emails with important information about your health care or insurance plan. For security reasons, we may close your online account if we can’t deliver messages to your email address. To verify or update your email address, sign in to your account.
  • Protect your email address. Use a strong and unique password for your email account, use two-factor identification when you can and don’t share your email sign-in information with anyone. Anyone with access to the email address associated with your HealthPartners account could reset your HealthPartners account password, change your account settings and take over your account.

Security measures we automatically take for you

The privacy and security of your HealthPartners account is essential to us. That’s why we have several security measures and privacy settings in place to help protect your account:

  • After five unsuccessful sign-in attempts, we'll lock your account for your protection. Your account will be unlocked after three hours or if you reset your password.
  • If we think your account has been compromised, we’ll temporarily disable your account to safeguard your private information. If this happens, we’ll reach out to you about next steps to take.

Health care fraud prevention and reporting

Health care fraud can lead to higher premiums and higher out-of-pocket expenses, which ultimately impact our members and patients. We’re committed to protecting our members and patients from health care fraud, waste and abuse, and encourage you to report suspected health care fraud to protect yourself and others.
