There are several types of myositis. Two particular types are:
- Dermatomyositis – This type of myositis can cause muscle weakness, a skin rash, calcium deposits under the skin, and trouble talking or swallowing. When dermatomyositis affects children, it’s called juvenile dermatomyositis (JDM).
- Polymyositis – This type of myositis can cause muscle weakness that affects both sides of your body. When polymyositis affects children, it’s called juvenile polymyositis (JPM).
